The excitement of the ice was palpable as the Mother Puckers D5 team celebrated their thrilling victory in the WCHL Play-Offs for the D6 Division against the Green Bay Dragons D6 team. This win represents not just an achievement for the team but a testament to their hard work, strong team spirit, and unwavering dedication throughout the season.

As the season unfolded, the Mother Puckers transformed into a formidable force in the league. Their chemistry on the rink grew visibly stronger, enabling them to tackle challenges and improve with each match. Although they did not make the D5 play-offs, they were asked to the D6 division play-offs against the Green Bay Dragons - a strong and talented competitor from up north.

A Season of Growth

This season, the Mother Puckers D5 displayed remarkable talent and tenacity. Support from coaches and loyal fans helped propel the team forward, even during tough times. Friends and family alike came out for game after game, rooting them no matter what the outcome. Individual players who had just learned how to play in the past two seasons and committed to growing, flourished throughout the season. Reagen Credit, a forward who had started playing two years, took on massive strides and scored several goals. Amy Curtin and Julie Gatesman were sympatico, passing pucks across the paint to each score goals. Tiffany Love did an awesome superman impression across the ice to defend the D-zone. Heather Maldonado, who had been striving to be the best goalie she could be after starting two season ago, had four shut-outs. Our fearless Captain, Nia who was out for the season with an injury, braved all elements including sub-zero outdoor games to rally us forward. Every player was essential to our success and our beloved Coach Jay was the glue that kept us all together.

Key Moments in the Play-Offs

The play-off journey held several unforgettable moments that defined the Mother Puckers’ success. The games were three rounds against the reigning D6 champion, the Green Bay Dragons. The first and second game ended with a 1-0 victory each game and the third game ended in a 1-1 tie. Throughout it all, both teams hugged each other, fist-pumped each goalie and laughed. We all knew that no matter who won, the real victory was in the fun we had and the new friends we made. Thank you, Green Bay Dragons, for your competitive and friendly spirit! Until we meet on the ice again! Each game presented unique challenges that required the team to adjust their tactics continually.

In the early rounds, the Puckers faced off against rivals they had previously struggled against. These tightly contested games often went down to the wire, with the team showing remarkable resilience. For example, in the quarterfinals, they trailed by two goals with just five minutes left, but a quick comeback led by two goals from their star forward turned the tide and secured their passage to the semi-finals.

Fans vividly remember the heart-stopping final seconds of their semi-final match, where a last-minute goal by their captain helped clinch a spot in the finals. This critical moment not only demonstrated the team's poise under pressure but also their ability to thrive when stakes were highest.
